Day One – Spanish Armada Trail
Meet your archaeologist guide at Portbeg Holiday Homes and travel comfortably to Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point, Mullaghmore. It’s only 20 minutes from Bundoran. You will hear about a famous castle here and visit a picturesque historic harbour. Taste a plate of shellfish at an excellent restaurant by the Sea before walking some of the headland where there are breath-taking views over a famous surfing spot!
Travelling south then, we will stop at an ancient court-tomb. This is a remarkable Stone Age monument. After, we’ll head for Grange village where you can enjoy some tasty pub grub.
The next part of your day is to do a really refreshing walk at the stunning Streedagh Strand. Your guide will tell you all about the Spanish Armada shipwrecks that lie beneath the waves here. Immerse yourself in this endearing landscape and soak up the scenery. Afterwards, your guide will serve you a good old Irish cup of tea!
Heading back, you can take in all the beautiful scenery and write about your impressions of the day. Later, why not enjoy a good pint of Guinness in famous Brennan’s Pub?
Day Two – Yeats Heritage Trail
Sit back, relax and enjoy your drive to famous Drumcliffe, passing the awesome Darty Mountains and Benbulben Mountain along the way. Meet your guide at the churchyard and hear about the history of an ancient 6th Century Columbian Monastery that once stood here. There’s a Celtic Cross and remains of a Round Tower too. You can visit the grave of our most famous poet, W. B. Yeats and we’ll quote a poem or two in his honour.
Call in to the pretty café for a coffee and browse through locally made souvenirs. We will the head for Rosses Point where Yeats used to spend his summers in his uncle’s house by the sea. We will follow a nice seaside track and stop at places of interest along the way. This place is filled with stories of piracy and smuggling!
We’ll then venture the into Sligo Town and do an hours walk stopping at the most interesting buildings. Sligo has a very quirky history and is picturesque along the Garavogue River. You can then have a tasty lunch in one of its best restaurants.
You can potter about the town after for an hour and pop your head into a pub or the shops! You’ll then return to Bundoran after an interesting and fun day out with Seatrails.
